Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, OFR, has outlined new plans to establish an entertainment village aimed at restoring Aba’s status as Nigeria’s original “Cradle of Entertainment.” He disclosed the plans during the official launch of the Aba Made Film Project, The Chronicles of Enyimba City, held on November 22 at the Aba Town Hall.

Governor Otti reiterated his intention to make Abia a major hub for creative industries, announcing that the proposed entertainment village—originally tied to the broader Abia Stadium Village project in Umuahia—may be relocated to Aba after further consultations. He also revealed upcoming infrastructure initiatives, including two five-star hotels in Aba and Umuahia, in partnership with Radisson Blu.

The Governor praised Aba’s historic role in the evolution of Nollywood, highlighting its early distribution network on streets like Pound Road and Nnamdi Azikiwe. He assured the film project team of full government backing, noting that his administration is prioritising urban renewal, security, education, healthcare, and an upgraded transport system featuring electric vehicles.

Various dignitaries, including Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s representative, the Speaker of the Abia House of Assembly, and Nollywood veterans such as Bob-Manuel Udokwu and Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki), commended Governor Otti’s leadership. They described the Aba Made Film Project as a transformative initiative capable of showcasing Abia’s cultural vibrancy, boosting economic growth, and positioning the state for greater regional influence.
