Armed attackers raided the Isapa community in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State on Monday evening, abducting about 11 residents, including a pregnant woman, two nursing mothers, and several children. The assailants, estimated to be in large numbers, reportedly entered the village with cattle and began shooting sporadically, causing panic as residents fled for safety.
Local accounts revealed that seven of the kidnapped victims were taken from one household, highlighting the severity of the incident. Among those abducted are a 20-year-old woman, a 22-year-old pregnant woman identified by residents as Sarah Sunday, two nursing mothers, and multiple children. An elderly woman was also injured by a stray bullet during the chaos.
After the attackers left, villagers discovered spent bullet casings and signs of gunfire on doors and walls throughout the community. Residents and local vigilante groups have since appealed for urgent intervention from security agencies, calling for immediate action to rescue the abducted victims.
The incident adds to a series of recent kidnappings in the region, heightening fears among rural communities and prompting renewed calls for stronger security presence to curb the rising wave of attacks.
