The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has dismissed claims that all government schools in the FCT were ordered to close by November 28, 2025, clarifying that “no such decision was taken at any level of the administration.”
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Public Communications and Social Media, stated that Minister Wike has directed the immediate suspension of the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, over the premature school closure circular.
Additionally, the Acting Head of Service, Mrs. Nancy Sabanti Nathan, has been instructed to discipline the Director of School Services, Mrs. Aishatu Sani Alhassan, in line with civil service regulations.
Investigations revealed that Dr. Hayyo issued the circular without seeking the necessary authorization. The FCTA described the report on early school closures as false and misleading and urged parents, students, and school authorities to disregard it, emphasizing that the official academic calendar remains unchanged.
The administration also reassured FCT residents, particularly students, of adequate security. Minister Wike has directed the resumption of Operation Sweep and other security initiatives across the federal capital.
