Two members of the United States National Guard were critically injured on Wednesday after being shot near the Farragut West Metro Station, just a short distance from the White House in Washington, D.C.
The incident occurred at about 2:20 p.m. local time. Both victims — a male and a female guard member — were quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where they were reported to be in critical condition.
Security agencies responded immediately, sealing off the area and placing surrounding streets and government buildings under temporary lockdown. A suspect, who was also injured during the incident, was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.
The shooting caused significant disruption in the highly secured zone, prompting heightened alert levels around the White House and nearby federal offices.
Authorities have not released the identities of the victims or the suspect, and the motive behind the attack has not yet been determined. Investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
