The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, saying the administration has lost control and failed in governance.
In a statement issued yesterday, Adebayo said electing Tinubu was a mistake, adding that the President has performed poorly across all sectors.
“You cannot fail in every aspect of governance,” he said. “Security has worsened, the economy is struggling, unemployment and inflation have risen, and the nation’s global standing has dropped.”
He further argued that the government lacks competence and direction, noting that Nigeria’s diplomatic appointments and security management reflect deep administrative weakness.
Adebayo described the Tinubu administration as “rudderless,” claiming that the government reacts to events rather than implementing a clear development plan.
“Where Nigeria is today is not where this government projected to be in 2025,” he added. “Tinubu has lost control of his own government, even though he never fully assembled it to begin with.”
While reacting to comments credited to former U.S. President Donald Trump, Adebayo disagreed that Nigeria itself is disgraced. Instead, he said the ineffectiveness of the current leadership is what taints the country externally.
“Tinubu represents Nigeria on the global stage,” he said. “The country is not a disgrace — the government’s performance is.”
