Severe flooding across Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia has killed more than 50 people, displacing millions and triggering widespread emergency operations.

Thailand has recorded 33 deaths across seven provinces, with more than 980,000 homes and 2.7 million people affected. Hat Yai, the country’s major southern commercial center, saw its heaviest rainfall in 300 years, leading to hospital evacuations and thousands of residents stranded on rooftops. The military has deployed boats, helicopters and its only aircraft carrier to deliver supplies and assist with evacuations, responding to over 77,000 requests for help.

After passing through Thailand, the storm intensified into a tropical cyclone as it moved toward Indonesia. North Sumatra has been among the worst-hit areas, where flash floods and landslides have killed at least 23 people, with more than 20 still missing. Rescue efforts have been hampered by heavy rain, power outages and blocked roads, as rivers burst their banks and entire hillsides collapsed.

Malaysia has also reported one fatality as flooding continues in several regions.

Authorities across the region warn that ongoing rainfall could trigger further landslides and flash floods, with emergency shelters established and residents urged to evacuate high-risk zones immediately.
