Police have concluded the fourth search for four-year-old Gus Lamont in South Australia’s outback, finding no new evidence. The renewed effort focused on six mine shafts near the family’s homestead, 61 days after Gus was last seen on September 27.

The shafts, ranging from shallow to 20 metres deep, were examined following aerial mapping and previous ground searches. Police said the inspections did not yield any clues about Gus’ whereabouts. His family has been updated and continues to receive support from a victim contact officer.

Assistant Commissioner Philip Newitt stressed the importance of eliminating all potential locations, describing the search as a thorough effort to find any signs or objects that might provide leads. Task Force Horizon, supported by specialist recovery officers, is continuing multiple lines of inquiry.

The case has left the local community distressed. Peterborough café owner Phillip White said residents remain anxious for answers: “People like a result… they’ve done so much trying to find him.”

Police have not ruled out returning to the property as investigations continue.
