As the Christmas season draws near, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has cautioned residents and fuel marketers in Osun State against panic buying and hoarding of petroleum products.

Speaking to journalists in Osogbo, NMDPRA’s Osun State Coordinator, Kunle Adeyemo, reassured the public that there is sufficient supply of petrol to meet demand before, during, and after the festive period. He emphasized that there is no need for panic purchasing or storing fuel at home, noting that keeping petrol in residential areas poses significant fire risks and could endanger lives and property.

Adeyemo also warned petroleum marketers against engaging in hoarding, diversion, illegal pump adjustments, and other sharp practices. He said the authority has stepped up monitoring and surveillance of filling stations to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and quantity standards, and that erring operators would face sanctions.

The NMDPRA’s advisory comes amid efforts to ensure steady fuel availability nationwide through the holiday season, urging both marketers and consumers to act responsibly and avoid actions that could disrupt supply or compromise safety.
