The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that one of its C-130 transport aircraft has landed safely in Banjul, The Gambia, while en route to Portugal for scheduled depot maintenance.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, the aircraft had earlier transited through Accra, Ghana, and is expected to make another stop in Casablanca, Morocco, before arriving at its final destination in Portugal.
The Air Force explained that the journey is a routine ferry flight conducted strictly in line with established aviation safety procedures.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, said the aircraft, which had earlier made a precautionary landing, has since continued its journey without incident.
“The Nigerian Air Force confirms that its C-130 aircraft, which earlier made a precautionary landing during a ferry flight, has successfully continued its journey and landed safely in Banjul, The Gambia. All personnel are safe, and the aircraft remains serviceable,” Ejodame stated.
NAF further reassured the public that ferry flights for aircraft undergoing maintenance are carefully planned and routed through designated airfields, with flight movements properly spaced to ensure maximum safety and operational efficiency.
The Service also expressed appreciation to the authorities in Ghana, The Gambia, and other countries along the flight path for their cooperation and support to the crew. It equally acknowledged the concern and goodwill shown by Nigerians.
“The Nigerian Air Force reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to the highest standards of safety and professionalism in all its operations,” the statement added.
