Abia indigenes living across northern and southern Nigeria have begun returning home for the Yuletide, courtesy of the free transportation scheme provided by Governor Alex Otti’s administration.

The first group to arrive were those residing in Lagos, while more returnees from states including Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, the Federal Capital Territory, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Sokoto, and Yobe are expected between today and tomorrow.

According to the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, the initiative has become an annual tradition since the beginning of Governor Otti’s administration, aimed at supporting Abians living outside the state to travel home and celebrate Christmas with their families and loved ones.

He noted that this year’s edition is particularly remarkable, as the buses are provided by BRIT Transport, a company owned by an Abia indigene, further demonstrating the governor’s commitment to promoting and empowering local businesses.

Dr. Ukaegbu described the gesture as an open invitation to Abians everywhere to return home, experience firsthand, and identify with the transformational developments taking place in the state under Governor Otti’s leadership.

The Eagle News reports that many of the returnees expressed deep appreciation to the governor, acknowledging that the free ride made their journey possible amid the high cost of transportation. They arrived singing praises and commending the administration for its people-oriented initiatives.
