Oben Village in Benin City, Edo State, is in shock after a Christmas celebration turned fatal, leaving 43-year-old Eghosa Osas dead. Osas, who had returned from abroad to spend the holiday season with family, was reportedly attacked during a housewarming party on December 27, 2025.

According to reports, Osas stepped away from the gathering when he was allegedly confronted by his childhood friend, Amadin William, known locally as “Old Soldier.” The attack occurred while Osas was alone, leaving party guests stunned and cutting short what was meant to be a joyous occasion.

Following the incident, the suspect reportedly fled the scene, sparking concern in the community. Security operatives later arrested him in Benin City the following day.

Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed that the victim’s brother filed an official report. He added that investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court once inquiries are completed.

The tragic death of Osas has cast a pall over festive celebrations in Oben Village. Residents expressed shock and sorrow, emphasizing the heartbreaking nature of the attack given the long-standing friendship between the victim and the accused.

Community members are appealing for justice while urging calm as the police continue their investigation.
