Gunmen Abduct, Kill Enugu Psychiatrist in Brazen Attack Near His Residence

A consultant neuro-psychiatrist based in Enugu has been confirmed dead after he was abducted by unknown gunmen and shot during the attack, sparking renewed concern over worsening insecurity in the state.

The victim, identified as Dr. Andrew Orovwigho, was reportedly kidnapped in front of his residence by armed assailants who intercepted him during the incident. He was later found critically injured after being shot and was rushed for medical attention but did not survive.

Dr. Orovwigho was a consultant at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital in Enugu and was described by colleagues as a dedicated and compassionate medical professional whose death has left the health community in shock.

The killing has triggered widespread outrage, with many residents and professionals expressing fear over the increasing cases of violent crimes, particularly kidnappings targeting working professionals in the region.

As of the time of this report, security agencies have yet to release an official statement or announce any arrests related to the incident. Meanwhile, calls have intensified for authorities to strengthen security measures to protect lives and property across Enugu State.
