The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored electricity to Taraba State, including the state capital Jalingo, after completing a major upgrade of the Yola–Mayo Belwa–Jalingo transmission line.
The power outage, which began on 9 January 2026, allowed engineers to carry out essential works, including the installation of new conductors and the energisation of 150MVA transformers at the Jalingo and Mayo Belwa substations.
During the upgrade, the Gombe–Yola transmission line was temporarily taken offline to enable extension and transfer works at the Yola substation. These improvements are expected to boost electricity reliability, expand transmission capacity, and meet the growing power demands of residents and businesses in Taraba and neighbouring areas.
TCN thanked consumers for their patience during the downtime and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a more stable and efficient national electricity grid.
