Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has said that no individual or group has the right to distract his administration with talks about the 2027 general elections, stressing that his government remains fully focused on rebuilding and repositioning Abia State.
Governor Otti made the statement on Saturday during a worship service at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Umuikaa District Headquarters, Isialangwa South Local Government Area.
He reaffirmed his commitment to doing what is right for the people of the state, noting that he is not worried about the 2027 elections. According to him, the same God who made the victory of 2023 possible will also take care of 2027.
“I assure you that this government will continue to do the right thing. No person or group, no matter who they are, is entitled to distract us,” the Governor said.
“When they make noise, as I said last week, we should not be bothered. We should remain focused and do what we need to do.
“Sometimes I wonder whether it is the 2027 election they are talking about or if there is another election coming up. But the same way God delivered 2023 is the same way He will deliver 2027, in Jesus’ name.”
Responding to concerns raised by the church over flooding and drainage challenges around the church premises and its surrounding areas, Governor Otti directed the Commissioner for Works to extend the ongoing drainage project up to Umuikaa Junction.
He also apologised to residents for the dust and inconvenience caused by the ongoing reconstruction works along the Umuikaa Junction–Owerrinta Road, explaining that such challenges are part of the development process.
“As you can see, we are at the final stages of dualising this road. It is a federal road, but we obtained approval from the Federal Government to reconstruct and dualise it,” he said.
“At the same time, we are working on the Onuimo–Tower road. The goal is that once you enter Abia State, you will immediately know you are in Abia.”
The Governor assured the people that he would continue to serve the state with sincerity, truth, and integrity, and expressed gratitude to the church for its prayers and support for his administration.
In separate remarks, the Secretary of the Alex Otti Vanguard Movement for Continuity 2027, Dr. Fineboy Ikechi Joseph; the First Elder of the church who coordinated the laying of its foundation, Elder G.C. Ukaegbu; and a former Head Elder and coordinator of retirees in Isialangwa South LGA, Elder E.C. Alozie, thanked the Governor for his goodwill towards the church.
They expressed confidence that Governor Otti’s achievements across the state would guarantee his re-election in 2027. They also appealed for the completion of drainage works around the church and its environs up to Umuikaa Junction to address persistent flooding.
Earlier in his sermon titled “Living with Eternal Perspective,” Masterguide Chidera Mark, referencing Isaiah 40:28–31, reminded the congregation that God does not change or grow weary. He urged believers to place their hope in Christ, assuring them of the promise of eternal life.
The preacher commended Governor Otti’s leadership style, noting that while Abia State previously had many challenges, the emergence of the Governor has restored hope. He added that sustaining the current pace of development would further consolidate the gains already recorded.
The church service was moderated by an Elder of the Church and General Manager of the Abia State Debt Management Office, Dr. Kingsley Nwaigburu. Special prayers were offered for the Governor and the Abia State Government, alongside special presentations by the Pastor-in-charge, Pastor Friday Izuoma.
Governor Otti attended the service with his wife, Her Excellency, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti. Other dignitaries present included the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Hon. Chinwendu Dennis; the Mayor of Isialangwa South LGA, Hon. Nnadozie Nwaogwugwu; and other government officials.
