The President of the General Igbo World Union IWU, His Imperial Majesty Amb Mishak Nnanta, has reacted to the recent developments surrounding the Monday sit at home in Anambra State, following the ban placed on the practice by Governor Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

In a statement issued on January 28, 2026, the global Igbo leader expressed concern over the growing tension in Anambra, noting that while the intention to restore full economic and social activities is understandable, the approach adopted must be carefully managed to avoid escalating fear and resistance among residents.

He observed that many communities across the South East had, in recent years, begun returning to normal commercial life, with markets and businesses gradually regaining stability. According to him, such progress remains delicate and should not be disrupted by measures that citizens may perceive as forceful or insensitive to prevailing sentiments.

Amb Nnanta emphasized that public order and economic growth are important, but must be pursued in ways that respect civil liberties. He maintained that traders and private business owners should not feel threatened in making personal or commercial decisions, stressing that confidence and cooperation grow better through engagement than compulsion.

The IWU President further stated that the sit at home issue in Anambra and the wider South East is tied to broader national concerns affecting the Igbo people, including questions of justice, fairness, security, and inclusion. He called on the Federal Government to address these matters sincerely, saying long term peace in the region depends on trust and equitable treatment.

He appealed to youths and residents of Anambra State to remain calm and avoid violence or destruction of lives and property, warning that unrest would only worsen the situation. At the same time, he encouraged lawful civic expression and constructive dialogue as the proper channels for addressing grievances.

Amb Nnanta reaffirmed the commitment of the General Igbo World Union to promoting unity, peace, and the protection of Igbo interests globally, adding that the union is ready to support genuine efforts toward reconciliation, stability, and sustainable development in Anambra State, the South East, and Nigeria as a whole.
