Reports indicate that Sunday Ndidi died in a road accident on Tuesday in Umunede, near Agbor, Delta State.

In a condolence message, President Tinubu said he was saddened by the tragic loss, noting that the late Sunday Ndidi played an important role in shaping his son’s character, values, and football career.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Sunday Ndidi. I share in the grief of his family, friends, and associates, particularly Wilfred Ndidi, who shared a strong bond with his father as a mentor and guide in his remarkable journey as an exceptional footballer,” the President stated.

Tinubu further described the late Ndidi as a man of integrity, responsibility, and modest background whose life left a lasting impression on those who knew him and those inspired by him.

The President also prayed for God’s comfort for the Ndidi family and asked for eternal rest for the departed soul.

Wilfred Ndidi, a Nigerian international footballer currently playing professionally in Türkiye, made his Super Eagles debut in 2015 and has earned over 65 caps.

He captained Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and has represented the country at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and several AFCON tournaments.
