The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has publicly urged residents to stop attacking, harassing, or obstructing its enforcement officers as they carry out duties to maintain cleanliness and environmental compliance across the state.

In a statement on January 29, 2026, LAWMA’s Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, expressed alarm over recent incidents in which officers were threatened or physically challenged while enforcing waste and sanitation laws.

Gbadegesin called such behaviour “unacceptable” and highlighted that enforcement teams are deployed to protect public health, ensure adherence to waste management rules, and keep Lagos clean and safe for everyone.

The authority warned that any form of violence, intimidation, or interference with its officers will be met with strict legal action under the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017. Residents are urged to channel complaints through official channels and to cooperate with officers rather than resorting to confrontation.

LAWMA also appealed to community groups, market associations, and transport unions to support efforts at promoting order and environmental responsibility throughout the state.
