President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive national development, assuring that no part of Nigeria will be neglected, following the formal defection of Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The assurance was delivered by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a grand reception held in Jalingo on Saturday, where he described Taraba as a key partner in the federal government’s growth and stability agenda.

Quoting the President, Shettima declared: “No region is expendable. No state is ornamental,” stressing that Tinubu views Taraba as strategic to Nigeria’s long-term progress.

He explained that the President had directed him to reassure Governor Kefas that his decision to join the ruling party marked the beginning of a stronger partnership focused on infrastructure development, economic expansion and social advancement.

“My dear brother, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked me to assure you of your place not only in the party, but in our shared commitment to prioritise the development of our people,” Shettima said.

The Vice President highlighted Taraba’s importance to Nigeria’s food and energy security, citing its agricultural strength, vast water resources and mineral deposits as vital assets for national economic resilience.

“What distinguishes us as a party is our belief that nations endure when they recognise their quiet strengths. Taraba is one of those strengths, a land that feeds, powers and steadies the nation without demanding applause,” he added.

Shettima noted that the APC was founded as a unifying platform that embraces Nigeria’s diversity and that Taraba’s inclusion further strengthens the party’s political and economic outlook.

He welcomed Kefas into the APC fold, describing his defection as a reflection of the belief that partnership remains essential for effective governance.

Also speaking at the event, the President of the Senate, represented by Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, said Kefas’ move would unlock greater opportunities for agricultural development, infrastructure growth and economic transformation in Taraba.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nantawe Yilwatda, described the governor’s defection as a catalyst for accelerated development, noting that alignment with the centre would allow Taraba to benefit more from federal programmes and ongoing reforms.

In his remarks, Governor Kefas said his decision was motivated by the need to reposition Taraba for sustainable growth rather than engage in partisan rivalry.

“This is about purpose. It is about the future of our young people, the dignity of our elders and the progress of Taraba State,” Kefas stated.

He commended security agencies for maintaining peace in the state and reaffirmed his administration’s focus on youth empowerment, infrastructure development and social welfare.

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, representing the Progressive Governors’ Forum, said Kefas’ defection would attract greater democratic dividends to Taraba, particularly in agriculture and infrastructure.

The event concluded with the presentation of the APC flag to Governor Kefas, formally installing him as the party’s leader in Taraba State.
