In a significant boost to healthcare in Ekiti State, American-based family medicine specialist, Dr. Monisade Adeyemo, has donated medical equipment worth several million naira to the Afe Babalola University Multi-System Hospital (AMSH) in Ado-Ekiti.
Dr. Adeyemo, owner of Lakewood Family Clinic in Maryland, USA, said the donation was her way of giving back to an institution that had once saved her life. She recounted being admitted to AMSH after suffering a massive stroke, where the hospital staff, including ABUAD Founder Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, provided exceptional care that contributed to her full recovery.
“I am here to contribute to the development of my state, Ekiti, and Afe Babalola Hospital stands out as an institution worthy of support,” Dr. Adeyemo said. She encouraged Nigerians at home and abroad to support initiatives that strengthen the nation’s healthcare system.
Receiving the donated equipment, Chief Medical Director of AMSH, Dr. Akinola Akinmade, described the gesture as both motivating and encouraging. He noted that AMSH has the capacity to handle almost any medical condition and recently completed its 44th kidney transplant, reflecting the hospital’s growing expertise.
Dr. Akinmade also highlighted that AMSH, along with the 16-year-old Afe Babalola University, continues to invest in cutting-edge medical infrastructure and manpower. Recognized as one of the most well-equipped hospitals in Sub-Saharan Africa, AMSH is helping to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on overseas medical treatment and tackling challenges such as poor health indices and maternal mortality.
“This donation not only recognizes the achievements of our hospital but will further inspire us to raise the standard of healthcare delivery, both locally and internationally,” Dr. Akinmade added.
