The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed recent accusations from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing them as baseless and motivated by fear and intimidation over the ruling party’s growing membership drive.
The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the ADC’s criticisms stem from jealousy and discomfort with the success of the party’s ongoing nationwide digital registration exercise, which has reportedly attracted a surge of new members.
Opposition parties, including the ADC, had alleged that the APC was coercing civil servants into joining the party as part of the registration process. However, Morka rejected the claims, insisting that the exercise is voluntary and transparent.
> “That claim is entirely false and baseless and is aimed at casting a shadow over the cutting-edge digitisation of our party’s membership register,” Morka said.
He also accused the ADC of engaging in a disinformation campaign, citing the circulation of a fake APC membership slip allegedly linked to a terrorist as part of attempts to discredit the registration exercise.
Morka attributed the large turnout to the impact of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said has begun to deliver visible results that are inspiring Nigerians to align with the ruling party.
> “Millions of Nigerians have registered and continue to register voluntarily and enthusiastically as members of our party,” he stated.
According to him, the overwhelming participation prompted the APC to extend the registration deadline from January 31 to February 8, 2026, in order to accommodate more prospective members.
Morka maintained that the ADC’s reaction reflects its unease with the APC’s growing popularity, but warned that misinformation cannot be justified.
> “Clearly, the ADC is intimidated by the phenomenal success of our party’s e-registration exercise,” he said.
He added that while opposition parties continue to “trade in disinformation,” the APC remains focused on consolidating reforms and strengthening democratic innovation through digital membership systems.
At a joint briefing, APC National Secretary Bashiru described the e-registration initiative as a historic milestone, emphasizing its role in promoting transparency, compliance, and global outreach.
Morka concluded by noting that the party’s digital registration process has positioned the APC ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in capturing accurate membership data.
