A fast-rising Nigerian singer, Ifunanya Nwangene, popularly known as Nanyah, has died after being bitten by a snake at her residence in the Lugbe area of Abuja.
Reports from associates and members of her music circle say the incident happened at her home, where multiple snakes were later discovered on the premises. She was quickly taken for medical treatment but faced delays as the first facility she visited reportedly lacked the required anti-venom. She was later moved to another hospital for further care.
Despite efforts by friends and medical staff to stabilise her condition and obtain additional treatment, she passed away hours later.
Members of her choir and close colleagues described her as a gifted vocalist and dedicated performer whose sudden passing has shocked the local music community. Her death has also triggered fresh public discussion about emergency preparedness and the availability of specialised treatments in health centres.
