Tension has escalated in Osun State following fresh disagreements between the State House of Assembly and local government council chairmen over the handling of council funds.
Some council leaders aligned with the opposition party have pushed back against accusations that they mismanaged or diverted local government allocations. They insisted that all financial transactions carried out under their supervision followed established guidelines and approval processes.
The officials also warned the Assembly against what they described as interference in council administration, arguing that local governments are entitled to operate independently within the law. According to them, attempts to question recent expenditures are politically driven and aimed at undermining their authority.
The dispute comes amid an ongoing leadership struggle across several local councils in the state, with both sides trading blame over control, accountability, and the legitimacy of financial decisions.
Observers say the standoff could lead to further legal and political battles if no resolution is reached soon.
