Court Schedules Key Hearing as Former Government Accountant Defends Himself in ₦868m Case

A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed February 10 for the cross-examination of a former senior government accountant standing trial over an alleged ₦868 million financial misconduct case.

The date was set after the defendant concluded his testimony in court, where he rejected all allegations and told the judge that his actions while in office followed due procedure. He presented details of his official responsibilities and maintained that he never approved or carried out any illegal transactions.

Prosecutors had earlier filed multiple charges, including claims of unlawful fund movements and financial breaches tied to his period in public service. The defence, however, insists the case is based on incorrect interpretations of administrative approvals and accounting processes.

The next court session is expected to focus on questioning the defendant’s statements and documents already submitted, as the trial moves into a more critical stage.
