The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has issued a warning over possible security threats ahead of a planned protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), FCT Council, scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
In a statement, the Command acknowledged the constitutional right of citizens to peaceful assembly and lawful protest, noting that it remains committed to protecting such democratic freedoms.
However, police authorities revealed that intelligence reports indicate the protest could be infiltrated by proscribed groups and other non-state actors intent on hijacking the exercise for disruptive purposes.
The Command cautioned that any such infiltration could threaten public peace, endanger lives, and lead to the destruction of property across the Federal Capital Territory.
Given the perceived risks, the police advised organisers to consider rescheduling the protest in order to prevent a possible breakdown of law and order and ensure the safety of residents, protesters, and other road users.
The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining security and protecting lawful activities within Abuja, while urging residents to continue cooperating with security agencies to keep the city peaceful and secure.
