“Early Screening and Healthy Living Key to Reducing Cancer Risk, Says Anambra First Lady”

The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has urged residents to prioritise regular health screenings and adopt healthier lifestyle habits as essential steps in reducing the impact of cancer.

In a statement marking World Cancer Day, Dr. Soludo emphasized that many Nigerians are diagnosed too late, making treatment more difficult and survival less likely. She noted that daily choices — particularly regarding diet and harmful habits — significantly affect the risk of developing serious illnesses.

Dr. Soludo, who leads the wellness-focused initiative Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, highlighted that cancer affects families across communities and stressed that prevention must extend beyond medicine to include collective action and care. She encouraged individuals to seek early screening rather than waiting for symptoms to appear.

She also emphasized the importance of caring for physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health as part of a holistic approach to wellbeing, noting that a healthy lifestyle is one of the strongest defences against preventable illnesses.
