The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old woman, Mrs. Edeh Osinachi, over the alleged abuse of a 17-year-old girl said to be her house help in Awka.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect allegedly inflicted serious injuries on the minor as a form of punishment.
Preliminary findings revealed that officials of the victim’s school noticed injuries on her body during a teaching session and promptly raised the alarm. Upon inquiry, the girl reportedly disclosed that her guardian punished her for using a mobile phone without permission.
SP Ikenga stated that the suspect was handed over to the police on Tuesday, February 3, 2025, by the Anambra State Ministry of Education as part of efforts to safeguard the welfare of students and pupils in the state.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect allegedly admitted to the act during interrogation. He assured the public that a thorough investigation would be carried out and that the case would be handled in line with the law.
The Anambra State Police Command commended the vigilance of the school authorities and urged parents and guardians to ensure the proper care and protection of children under their supervision to prevent abuse.
