On Thursday, February 5th, 2026, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, met with the promoters and partners of the proposed Aba Commercial Smart City Project at his office, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to driving the project forward.
Governor Otti assured the delegation that he is prepared to officially launch the project as soon as all necessary conditions are met, emphasizing the importance of seeing “the colour of the money” before proceeding. He clarified that, in line with his administration’s approach, groundwork will commence prior to the formal flag-off. “Contractors will mobilize to site first, and they should be actively working for weeks or months before any official ceremony takes place,” he stated, adding that the flag-off will follow only after tangible progress is made.
The Governor expressed his desire for the project to kick off without delays, but indicated he is willing to provide the developers with additional time to fully prepare for the initiative, so long as work starts in earnest.
Additionally, Governor Otti highlighted the imminent commencement of the long-awaited construction of the Enyimba Hotel, Aba’s first-ever five-star hotel, a landmark project developed in partnership with the renowned Radisson Blu hospitality brand. The Governor also revealed that Radisson Blu has already begun work on the site of the Enyimba Hotel at Ogbor Hill, which had been left abandoned for years since its inception by the late Dr. Sam Mbakwe, former Governor of old Imo State.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Bar. Ikechukwu Uwana (SAN), Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Dr. Mrs. Salome Obiukwu, and Director-General of Public-Private Partnerships and Investment Promotion, Mr. Chinedum Chijioke, among others.
