Two Akwa Ibom Communities End Two-Decade Conflict, Pledge Peace

After more than two decades of tension, the communities of Esit Urua in Eket and Ibeno in Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have agreed to end their longstanding feud. The settlement comes after months of mediation by elders, traditional rulers, and local leaders.

At a ceremony to formalize the peace agreement, representatives from both communities pledged to work together to prevent future conflicts. Stakeholders described the development as a fresh start that promises unity, cooperation, and mutual respect.

The dispute had previously disrupted social and economic activities, creating divisions among families and neighbors. With the accord in place, officials and residents anticipate smoother interactions, easier trade, and improved community relations between the two areas.

Community elders expressed optimism that the peace pact will be a lasting foundation for harmony and development. They urged youths, women, and local groups to actively support the agreement, promoting reconciliation and trust throughout both communities.
