Stakeholders and residents of the Ohuhu clan in Umuahia North Local Government Area have formally endorsed Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, for a second term in office, commending his administration for what they described as a positive transformation of the state.

The endorsement was announced during an enlarged solidarity visit by over 2,000 indigenes of Ohuhu to the governor at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia. Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Chief Obi Aguocha, said the visit was to express the gratitude of the Ohuhu people for Governor Otti’s long-standing relationship with the clan and the developmental strides recorded under his leadership.

Chief Aguocha also thanked the governor for appointing several sons and daughters of Ohuhu into key federal and state positions. These include Chief Victor Ikeji as Federal Commissioner representing Abia State in the Federal Character Commission; Mr Chinenye Mba-Uzoukwu as Principal Secretary and Chief Strategy Officer to the Governor; Agbonma Ukaobasi as Ease of Doing Business point person; Ure Abazie as Director-General of the State Orientation Agency; and Sir Chris Onwuegbu as Permanent Secretary, among others.

He further drew the governor’s attention to critical infrastructure needs in Ohuhu, including the condition of the Ohuhu ring road, the Okpara Road linking Amaogwugwu, Umuagu and Ofeme to Isiukwuato, as well as the need to revive and properly utilise the Ulonna Farm Settlement established by the late Dr Michael Okpara.

In separate remarks, prominent stakeholders such as the pioneer Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Onyema Ugochukwu; Chief Uzodinma Okpara; and the member representing Umuahia North State Constituency, Barrister Anderson Akaliro, praised Governor Otti for transforming the Michael Okpara Auditorium into a world-class facility and for the rehabilitation of Ohuhu Community Secondary School, alongside other interventions across Umuahia and the state.

The stakeholders also appealed to the governor to address the long-standing water scarcity in Ohuhu by reviving the Ohuhu Regional Water Scheme, and to complete and make functional the Ohuhu General Hospital at Umuegwu Okpuala, built by the late Dr Michael Okpara.

Responding, Governor Otti expressed appreciation to the Ohuhu people for their support, solidarity and endorsement. He disclosed that funds had been provided in the 2026 budget for the Ohuhu Regional Water Scheme, adding that the Umuahia Regional Water Scheme would soon be flagged off for rehabilitation, noting that work on the Aba Regional Water Scheme had reached about 80 per cent completion.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring regular pipe-borne water supply across the state and promised to look into the revival of the Ohuhu General Hospital to ensure it is put to effective use.

He also urged community leaders to mobilise residents to participate in the ongoing voters’ registration exercise, stressing that possession of a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) remains critical to effective civic participation.

The event, which cut across party lines, was attended by notable stakeholders including Dr Aham Uko, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Sir Chris Onwuegbu, and other community leaders. Traditional rulers of the Ohuhu clans offered prayers for the governor, his family and the state, and presented him with gift items.

Also present were the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, PhD, and other senior government officials.
