The federal government has accused former Kaduna State governor Mallam Nasir El‑Rufai of attempting to stir unrest and mislead the public for political gain. According to officials, his recent criticisms are aimed at creating tension across the country and undermining confidence in the federal government.

Presidential aides claim that his actions go beyond normal political opposition and are intended to divert attention from serious allegations of corruption linked to his tenure as governor. Authorities say he is currently facing investigations by anti-graft agencies and has lost support among key stakeholders in Kaduna State.

Officials also stated that El‑Rufai’s calls for transparency on national security matters were misleading, noting that he had already received responses from the relevant authorities which he has not made public. The Presidency urged him to focus on addressing the corruption probes instead of fueling national controversy.

At the time of the Presidency’s statement, El‑Rufai and his team had not issued an official response. The situation highlights growing tensions between the federal government and some former state officials over political accountability and public trust.
