Tragedy on Kebbi River Route as Wedding Trip Ends in Fatal Boat Mishap

A boat transport accident has claimed the lives of at least 14 passengers after a boat conveying people from a wedding outing overturned in a riverside community in Kebbi State.

The victims were said to be part of a group travelling back from a marriage ceremony when the vessel ran into trouble along a local waterway in Yauri area. Witnesses reported that nearby residents and local volunteers quickly moved in to rescue survivors from the water.

Several passengers were brought ashore alive and are receiving care, while community leaders began coordinating support for affected families as recovery efforts continued.

Authorities have renewed warnings about strict safety practices in water travel, urging operators and passengers to avoid overcrowding and ensure basic protective measures before embarking on river journeys.
