President Bola Tinubu on Monday urged state governors to prioritize the welfare of their citizens, describing investment in people as the most profitable venture in a democracy.
The President made the remarks in Yola while commissioning a series of projects executed by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. He emphasized that good governance must focus on meeting the needs and aspirations of the people, noting that democracy thrives when leaders implement policies that directly improve citizens’ quality of life.
“Governance is not merely about holding political office; it is about service and measurable impact,” Tinubu said. “The only profitable investment in democracy is investment in the people.”
He called on governors nationwide to sustain efforts in economic growth, infrastructure development, healthcare delivery, education reform, and social protection. He also encouraged stronger collaboration between federal and state governments to ensure that development reaches grassroots communities.
President Tinubu praised Fintiri’s leadership, describing him as “a true reflection of who we are as a united people,” and urged citizens to cooperate with their governors to enable effective governance.
Governor Fintiri highlighted several projects completed under his administration, including a new NYSC orientation camp nearing completion, the Yola Model School, the dualization of Gimba Road, expansion and remodeling of the High Court complex, and the construction of a modern shopping mall.
He also announced the employment of 5,000 teachers to strengthen the state’s education sector and power newly commissioned schools. Addressing water scarcity challenges across Adamawa, Fintiri disclosed plans to name the NYSC orientation camp after President Tinubu.
Fintiri described education as “the greatest weapon against poverty” and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to security, pledging to work with federal authorities to combat banditry and terrorism.
President Tinubu expressed optimism about the future of Adamawa State, saying he sees hope in the faces of the people and reiterating that leaders at all levels must actively involve citizens in governance.
