Presidential Intervention Halts Leadership Rift in Rivers State

Political tensions in Rivers State have cooled following a last-minute resolution that halted moves to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Ordu, from office.

The truce was announced after deliberations by the state legislature, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, who confirmed that lawmakers agreed to discontinue the process in the interest of stability.

The breakthrough followed high-level intervention by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose involvement helped broker dialogue among the warring political actors. As part of the agreement, all legal disputes linked to the standoff have been dropped, signaling a reset in relations between the executive and legislative arms.

Lawmakers stressed the importance of mutual respect and adherence to constitutional responsibilities moving forward, noting that cooperation is essential for governance and development in the state.

Observers say the development marks a significant de-escalation of the crisis, raising hopes for a more united political front and improved administrative focus in Rivers.
