Government Launches Investigation After Deadly Plateau Mine Incident

The Nigerian government has deployed a high‑level investigative team to examine a tragic mining incident in the Zurak community of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State, where at least 37 miners died and around 25 others were hospitalized.

Officials, led by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, visited the site to begin a detailed probe into the circumstances of the tragedy. Early indications suggest the miners were overcome by toxic gases in poorly ventilated underground tunnels, though the exact cause remains under investigation.

The federal team includes experts in mining compliance, environmental safety, and regulatory enforcement. They have been tasked with determining whether safety standards were violated or if illegal mining activities contributed
