Obi Urges JAMB to Fix Registration Chaos, Says Students Shouldn’t Bear the Cost of Bureaucratic Errors

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has raised concerns over the ongoing difficulties faced by candidates registering for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

He criticized the challenges at registration centres, describing the situation as disorganized and stressful for students who are struggling to complete their applications on time. According to him, the congestion and delays are largely due to the shutdown of several accredited centres, leaving candidates with limited options.

Obi acknowledged the authority of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board to discipline erring centres, but stressed that such actions should not negatively affect innocent candidates. He urged the board to introduce temporary solutions that would ease the burden on students.

He further warned that many candidates risk missing the registration deadline despite their readiness, simply because of systemic issues beyond their control.

Obi concluded by emphasizing that no student should be denied an opportunity for higher education due to administrative lapses, calling for swift intervention to restore order and fairness.
