Tinubu Administration Reports Widespread Reach of Household Cash Transfer Programme

The administration of Bola Tinubu has stated that millions of low-income households across Nigeria have received financial assistance through its ongoing social support programme.

According to government officials, the initiative—designed to ease economic hardship—has so far reached about nine million of the country’s poorest families. The disclosure was made by the Minister of Finance, who highlighted the role of direct cash transfers in helping citizens cope with rising living costs.

Authorities explained that the payments are part of broader economic reforms aimed at strengthening social protection systems. The scheme targets vulnerable groups identified through national data systems, with funds sent directly to beneficiaries to reduce leakages and ensure transparency.

The programme is one of several measures introduced to cushion the effects of recent policy changes, including subsidy removal and currency adjustments, which have contributed to increased financial pressure on many Nigerians.

While the government maintains that the intervention is making a positive impact, concerns have been raised in some quarters about the reach, transparency, and effectiveness of the distribution process. Officials, however, insist that improvements in identification and monitoring are helping to build trust and expand access to those in need.
