The United States Embassy in Nigeria has issued an urgent security alert advising American citizens in Abuja to remain indoors due to the rising threat of planned protests in the capital. The embassy has expressed concerns over possible disruptions to public order, with reports suggesting that protests could escalate into violent clashes.

According to the embassy’s statement, individuals are advised to avoid any areas where demonstrations may take place and to stay updated on the latest security information from local authorities. The advisory highlights the potential for protests to turn chaotic, with heightened risks to personal safety and public transport disruptions.

The embassy also encouraged all American nationals in the area to review their personal security plans and ensure they have access to emergency contacts, including the embassy’s consular services. It recommended that non-essential travel within Abuja be postponed until further notice.

This advisory comes amid mounting tensions, as Nigerians brace for demonstrations in response to various political and economic concerns. The Nigerian government has not yet made any formal statements on the planned protests, but security personnel have been placed on standby, ready to respond if the situation worsens.

With both international and local communities on edge, the embassy’s call for caution underscores the fragile security situation in Abuja as the capital prepares for a tense period of civil unrest.
