Former Anambra State governor and presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has called on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure that the 2027 general elections are conducted in a transparent and credible manner. According to him, if the electoral process is truly fair, Nigerians will clearly decide who should lead the country.
Speaking at a public gathering in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, Obi said he is not worried about the large number of state governors currently aligned with the APC. He insisted that political dominance at the state level should not determine the outcome of a national election if the process is free and impartial.
The former governor emphasized that his ambition is driven by the desire to see Nigeria function effectively. He argued that the country is facing deep economic and social challenges and requires leaders who are committed to genuine reforms and responsible governance.
Obi also expressed frustration with the political climate, claiming that certain actions and adjustments within the system appear aimed at discouraging him from participating in the next presidential race. Despite these obstacles, he maintained that he remains determined to contest the election.
He concluded by urging political leaders and electoral authorities to allow a level playing field during the 2027 polls, stressing that once the contest is fair and open, the Nigerian electorate will decide the rightful winner.
