An explosion struck the United States Embassy in Oslo, Norway, in the early hours of Sunday, leaving what authorities described as minor material damage to the facility.

The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. local time and affected the entrance area of the embassy’s consular section. Norwegian police confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the blast.

Authorities said the explosion comes at a time of heightened security concerns at U.S. diplomatic missions around the world, following escalating tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran. In recent days, several American diplomatic and military facilities in Gulf countries hosting U.S. troops, including Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, have reportedly been targeted by retaliatory Iranian strikes.

In a statement, Oslo police said the cause of the explosion has not yet been confirmed, but investigators are treating the incident seriously and have deployed significant resources to the scene.

Police Commander Michael Dellemyr told local television stations that officials are withholding details about the type of damage or the exact nature of the explosion. However, he noted that investigators have preliminary indications about the cause and that it may have been a deliberate act.

Authorities are also interviewing witnesses and gathering additional information as the investigation continues. No injuries have been reported.
