Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has revealed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has begun strategic mobilisation aimed at securing at least 10 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the South-West during the 2027 presidential election.
Bamidele made the disclosure during the inauguration of the 57-member Ekiti State Governorship Election Campaign Council in Ado-Ekiti.
At the same event, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji cautioned party members against complacency, urging them to treat the election seriously rather than assuming victory ahead of time.
Bamidele, who chairs the Ekiti APC 2026 Governorship Campaign Council, described the June 20 governorship election in the state as a referendum on Oyebanji’s leadership, expressing confidence that the governor’s re-election would be easy for the party.
He praised Oyebanji’s performance in office, stating that the governor’s achievements were unprecedented in Ekiti State’s history and had positively impacted the lives of over 3.8 million residents.
According to the Senate Leader, the party’s mission goes beyond the governor’s re-election and includes preparations for the 2027 general elections scheduled to hold between January 16 and February 6.
“As a party driven by vision and conviction, we have set a target ahead of the 2027 elections. We have designed a mobilisation plan to deliver at least 10 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the six states in the South-West,” Bamidele said.
He urged APC leaders and members to intensify grassroots mobilisation and encourage eligible voters to register in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise. He noted that despite Ekiti’s population of about 3.8 million, the state had only 987,647 registered voters as of the 2023 election.
Governor Oyebanji, however, expressed concern over what he described as the careless attitude of some party members who believe the election is already won.
He emphasised that victory would only come through effective mobilisation and grassroots engagement, urging party members to embark on door-to-door campaigns with a target of securing at least 500,000 votes.
The governor also thanked Bamidele for accepting to chair the campaign council, saying his involvement demonstrates strong commitment to ensuring the continuity of APC leadership in the state.
Oyebanji further urged members of the campaign council to conduct their activities in line with the electoral law and avoid violence, while calling on opposition parties to maintain peace for a credible and violence-free election.
