Falana Urges Tinubu to Forge International Alliance to Prevent U.S.–Iran Escalation

Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take a proactive diplomatic role amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran. He warned that the standoff could have far-reaching consequences for global peace, including economic and security impacts on Nigeria.

Falana criticised what he described as a disregard for international law in the way the United States has handled recent incidents, saying this could draw more nations into conflict and destabilise international relations. He urged Nigeria not to remain on the sidelines but to work with other influential countries to push for peaceful negotiations.

He highlighted that strategic engagement with nations such as China and Russia could help strengthen diplomatic pressure on both Washington and Tehran to prioritise dialogue over military escalation. Falana stressed that collective international effort is necessary to prevent the situation from spiralling into a wider crisis.

The human rights lawyer also warned that if diplomatic channels fail and hostilities continue, the risk of a major global confrontation could increase, potentially affecting countries far from the Middle East. He urged the Nigerian government to prioritise diplomacy and collaborate with global powers to secure a peaceful resolution.
