Police Arrest Suspect Over Fatal Clash in Ibadan Community

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspect following a violent altercation that led to the death of a resident in Asalu Community, Lalupon area of Ibadan.

According to the police, the incident occurred after community leaders reported to the Iyana-Offa Police Division that local security guards had alerted them to a confrontation involving a group of youths in the community during the night.

The injured victims were immediately taken to Ojo Oluwa Hospital in Iyana-Offa for treatment. However, one of the victims, identified as Kehinde, popularly known as “Ogo Ojigbo,” later died from his injuries.

Following the report, a team of police officers led by the Divisional Police Officer of Iyana-Offa quickly visited the scene and the hospital to begin investigations. During the operation, a suspect identified as Giwa Sodiq was arrested in connection with the incident.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue in Ring Road, Ibadan, where an autopsy will be conducted.

Police authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down other suspects who fled the scene in order to ensure they are brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, praised the swift action of the officers involved and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious or criminal activities to the police.

He also called on members of the public with useful information that could help in arresting the remaining suspects to cooperate with the police.

Haruna further acknowledged the support and leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in strengthening security and community policing efforts across the state.
