President Bola Tinubu has ordered Nigeria’s security chiefs to immediately relocate to Maiduguri, Borno State, following recent terrorist attacks in the state capital.
The directive is part of the Federal Government’s emergency response to coordinated assaults on military bases and nearby communities in the area.
Tinubu expressed deep sympathy to families who lost loved ones and to residents affected by the violence, describing the situation as deeply troubling.
“The recent developments in Maiduguri, Borno State, are profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured, and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this difficult period,” the President said.
According to him, the decision to deploy the country’s top security officials to Maiduguri is aimed at strengthening coordination among security agencies and ensuring a swift response to the insurgent threat.
Tinubu described the attacks as desperate attempts by terrorist groups seeking to spread fear, adding that the insurgents are already under intense pressure from the Nigerian military and other security forces.
“I want to make it clear that these acts of terror represent the desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies,” he said.
The President also commended the Nigerian military and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force for their bravery in repelling the coordinated attacks on military installations in the state.
“I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state,” he added.
Tinubu further described Monday’s attacks as acts of desperation and expressed confidence that the security forces would soon bring the perpetrators under control.
“Our gallant military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down,” he stated.
The President also revealed that he recently approved additional equipment and operational support for the armed forces and other security agencies to strengthen their counter-terrorism operations.
“Just last weekend, during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies, I approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities. This effort is already in progress,” he said.
He also directed emergency response agencies to provide urgent medical care and assistance to those injured during the attacks.
Reassuring Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to ending terrorism, Tinubu insisted that no part of the country would serve as a safe haven for terrorists.
“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” the President declared.
