Nigeria’s Bar Association Launches Free Legal Support Service for Vulnerable Citizens

The Nigerian Law Society (NLS) has rolled out a new programme to offer free legal help to Nigerians who cannot afford traditional attorney fees, using popular digital tools like WhatsApp and other online platforms to connect with those in need.

Under the initiative, qualified lawyers associated with the NLS will provide pro‑bono advice and assistance on a range of legal issues—from civil disputes to criminal defence—to people across the country who lack access to affordable legal representation.

By adopting instant messaging and virtual consultation channels, the society aims to bridge the justice gap for disadvantaged communities and ensure that basic legal support is no longer limited by geography or income.

The programme reflects a growing focus within Nigeria’s legal profession on expanding access to justice and leveraging technology to serve underserved populations.
