The House of Representatives has raised alarms over potential fuel shortages, stressing the urgent need to boost crude oil supply to the nation’s refineries.

Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere, chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), highlighted that limited domestic crude and rising global oil prices are contributing to increasing fuel costs across the country. He cited international tensions, including the US-Iran conflict, as factors putting additional pressure on the local fuel market.

The committee has called on the Presidential Technical Committee on the Crude-for-Naira Initiative to take immediate steps to ensure consistent delivery of quality crude to refineries. According to Ugochinyere, addressing these supply gaps is critical to maintaining stable fuel availability for Nigerians.

He further warned against the disruptive practices of certain foreign trading firms acting as middlemen in the domestic crude market, urging stronger oversight to protect national fuel interests.
