The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has applauded Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for dedicating 30 per cent of the state’s 2026 budget to education, describing the move as a clear commitment to strengthening the sector.
Sanusi also emphasised the need to prioritise girl-child education in Northern Nigeria, urging parents and spouses not to deny women access to quality learning opportunities.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria governor made these remarks on Sunday during the traditional Sallah homage (Hawan Nassarawa) at the Kano Government House, part of activities marking the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
While expressing gratitude for the reception he received, Sanusi explained his decision to return to school to study law at Northwest University, Kano. He said the move was not related to any legal issues but aimed at inspiring others to pursue knowledge.
“Education comes before kingship. A king who is educated commands greater respect, while one without education lacks true value,” he said.
In a related message, Governor Yusuf called on residents to maintain peace and unity, regardless of political or religious differences, for the progress of the state.
Represented by the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Jibrin Falgore, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to human development and citizens’ welfare.
He urged the public to avoid actions that could disrupt peace during the festive period and to uphold values of tolerance, respect, and coexistence.
The governor also advised parents and guardians to ensure their children behave responsibly throughout the celebrations, while assuring residents of continued efforts to safeguard lives and property across Kano State.
