No fewer than 10,000 teachers across Nigeria have registered for the forthcoming Professional Qualifying Examination organised by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), scheduled to take place from May 14 to 16, 2026.
The Registrar and Chief Executive of TRCN, Ronke Soyombo, disclosed this on Tuesday, noting that the high turnout reflects increasing confidence in the council’s digital platform.
She explained that the growing number of users on the TRCN portal highlights its effectiveness in managing teacher registration, licensing, and certification processes nationwide. The platform, launched in September 2025 with the support of the Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, represents a key step in the digital transformation of Nigeria’s education sector.
According to Soyombo, the portal has significantly improved access and efficiency in handling teacher registration across the country.
Addressing earlier complaints, she noted that initial technical challenges were mainly due to heavy user traffic, system upgrades, and the transition from manual to digital processes.
“The initial challenges experienced were largely attributable to high user traffic and increased demand following nationwide rollout, ongoing system upgrades, and user adaptation issues associated with transitioning from manual to digital processes,” she said.
Soyombo, however, assured that the platform is now fully operational and running smoothly, adding that the successful registration of over 10,000 teachers demonstrates its reliability and capacity to support large-scale operations.
She emphasised that the digital portal remains the only authorised channel for teacher registration, licensing, and certification in Nigeria, dismissing claims of third-party involvement.
“Registration is exclusively conducted through the official TRCN portal, ensuring transparency and eliminating fraudulent practices,” she added.
The TRCN boss commended teachers for their patience during the transition period and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to enhancing the platform and strengthening a transparent, efficient, and user-friendly digital education system nationwide.
