Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has commissioned a multi-million dollar beverage production facility built by Ultimum Beverages Limited at the Osisioma Industrial Layout in Aba, describing the development as clear proof that Abia has re-emerged as a prime destination for investment.
The commissioning ceremony took place on Wednesday, March 25, at Egbelu-Owor in Osisioma Local Government Area. Governor Otti stated that his administration has deliberately created a business-friendly environment designed to attract investors and promote sustainable economic growth.
Speaking in an address titled “The Fruits of Diligent Labour,” the Governor praised the Kadji Group—the parent company behind Ultimum Beverages—for its confidence in Aba’s economic potential.
He revealed that the group has already invested over $35 million in the state-of-the-art facility, with plans to scale up to $100 million. According to him, the investment underscores a broader transformation taking place in Abia.
Governor Otti noted that the commencement of production at the plant is not only the fulfillment of a vision but also strong evidence that the state is on the right developmental path. He emphasized that investors are naturally drawn to environments that guarantee security, returns on investment, and institutional support.
He further explained that his administration’s efforts since assuming office in May 2023 have focused on repositioning the state through improved infrastructure, enhanced security, cleaner urban spaces, and strategic human capital development.
The Governor expressed appreciation to the Kadji Group for choosing Abia and urged residents to take collective responsibility in safeguarding the facility and other investments across the state. He warned against activities that could hinder development, including vandalism and other disruptive actions.
In his remarks, Chairman of Ultimum Beverages Limited and representative of the Kadji Group, Mr. Whalen Kadji, said the company was attracted to Aba due to its strong entrepreneurial culture and improving business climate.
He commended Governor Otti for his proactive approach to governance, particularly in infrastructure development such as roads, power, and water supply, which have significantly boosted investor confidence.
Mr. Kadji also appreciated the Governor for the prompt reconstruction of the 1.2-kilometre access road leading to the facility, describing it as a demonstration of responsive leadership.
Earlier, the Managing Director of Ultimum Beverages Limited, Mr. Austin Ufomba, described the project as the realization of a long-held vision to build a globally competitive manufacturing plant.
He noted that establishing the factory in Aba fulfilled a personal commitment he made to invest in Abia, expressing confidence in Governor Otti’s leadership. According to him, the true impact of the investment lies in the jobs it will create, the opportunities it will generate, and the inspiration it will provide for young people.
Mr. Ufomba added that the facility will create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs while maintaining strong environmental sustainability standards.
The event was attended by members of the Kadji Group from Cameroon, a representative of the Cameroonian Ambassador to Nigeria, and several top government officials.
