President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday welcomed his Chadian counterpart, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Déby arrived around 2:00 p.m. for the official visit, marking his first trip to Nigeria since Tinubu attended his inauguration in N’Djamena on May 23, 2024.

The meeting continues a series of diplomatic engagements between both nations and comes shortly after Tinubu hosted another foreign leader in Abuja. Although official details of their discussions were not immediately released, talks are expected to focus on regional security, particularly in the Lake Chad Basin.

Chad remains a crucial ally in combating insurgent groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State-linked factions operating across Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and Cameroon.

Since assuming power after his father’s death in 2021, Déby has transitioned from military leadership to a civilian government following his victory in the 2024 elections. His visit highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and deepen cooperation on security across West and Central Africa.
