Nigeria is positioning itself as a leader in Africa’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) landscape, with a focus on homegrown solutions that can drive economic growth and technological advancement.

Vice President Kashim Shettima highlighted the country’s commitment to nurturing local talent and creating innovation centers that translate research into practical solutions across agriculture, healthcare, education, and finance. He stressed that developing strong digital infrastructure and AI expertise is key to ensuring Nigeria plays a central role in shaping Africa’s tech future.

A major step in this strategy is the launch of the Artificial Intelligence University Innovation Pod (UniPod), designed to turn universities into hubs for research, collaboration, and entrepreneurship. Shettima emphasized that these initiatives will generate jobs, support industries, and boost Nigeria’s competitiveness on the global stage.

The Vice President also highlighted the importance of inclusive technology systems that reflect local realities, underscoring that Nigeria’s approach to AI aims to benefit both the economy and communities across the nation.
